Notes from Fr. Tim:
1) Please pray for the repose of soul for Mrs. Beatrice (Bea) Battis (nee Conroy) who passed away at the nursing home in Fort Coulonge on Thursday. The arrangements for her funeral have yet to be finalized but will be posted on the parish website (uppontiacparishes.wordpress.com) once they are made.

2) Congratulations to Fiona Brennan, infant daughter of Jessica Kelly and Richard Brennan who was baptized in St. Joseph Church last Sunday. May she live a long life of faith and joy.

3) The financial statement of our revenues and expenses are available in each of the churches this weekend. A copy will be posted on the bulletin board at the entrances and others available for you to take one home. You will note that all the parishes are running a deficit at this point in the year. This is because: a) repairs that have been done to the rectory and churches, and b) the high oil bills that came from the endless winter of 2017-18. It isn’t a great concern though since we traditionally receive more revenue and fewer expenses in the 2nd half of each year. We were in a similar state at this point last year as well and yet each of the parishes ended the year in good shape. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to speak to me about them. If I don’t have the answer right away, I will research it and reply asap. I thank everyone very much for your generous financial support of each of the parishes.

4) The annual Parish Draw tickets for St. Alphonsus will be available beginning this week. Once again the prizes are a homemade quilt and various cash prizes. This is an important component of the revenues we generate as part of our Parish Supper so we ask that each family either sell or purchase 10 books. Thank you for your continued assistance in this annual fundraising effort.

5) Once again this weekend there will be strawberries for sale on the grounds of the Chapeau Gallery after the 10:30 am Mass with the proceeds going to support our Peruvian carpenter’s school project. Don’t be tardy in getting to the tent if you want to make a purchase as last week all the strawberries sold out very quickly!

6) Jesus sends out his disciples to spread the good news of the Kingdom in today’s gospel passage. If we want to be considered among his followers (and thus inherit the promised eternal life he offers) he expects us to do the same. So what have you done this week to accomplish that same end?

The Sheenboro Parish Council chose the St. Bryce Mission in Costa Rica as our parish’s cause to help mothers and their infants. This mission helps the Cabecar indigenous people at the St. Francis Emmaus Center is located in Turrialba, Costa Rica, the nearest city to the Chirripo indigenous reservation. According to the mission’s website: “The center, modeled off the internationally-lauded model of “pregnancy waiting homes”, provides a safe, comfortable place for up to 30 Cabecar mothers, who must journey long hours on foot to have access to medical care, in the days before and after the birth of a child or in the event of the hospitalization of a child.” Because of the lack of access to medical services and harsh living conditions, the Cabecar population suffers infant and maternal mortality rates nearly 5 times higher than the rest of the Costa Rican population. However, annually, 400 mothers visit the centre and the medical help has reduced infant mortality by 50%. For more information, please see http://www.stbryce.org/costa-rica/ Please watch Fr. Tim’s and the parish blog, as he will be posting informational videos about St. Bryce Mission.

Notes from Fr. Tim:

Notes from Fr. Tim
1) We extend our sympathy and prayers to the family of Lauretta Durocher-Reid (nee Gallagher) who died this week. She is being waked from the Hayes Funeral Home in Chapeau on Sunday and her funeral will be held in St. Joseph’s on Monday. Burial will be in the Waltham cemetery. Visit the parish blog (www.uppontiacparishes.wordpress.com) for more details.

2) Please keep Mr. M.J. Sullivan of Chapeau in your prayers in the wake of the destruction of his house in a fire this past week. Thankfully no one was injured but the loss of one’s home to a fire is devastating for anyone to endure.

3) Have you picked up your parish draw tickets to buy or sell yet? We count on your help in making this important part of the parish suppers a success.

4) Congratulations to Brian Begrowicz and Chelsea Smith who were married in the St. Joseph’s Church this weekend. May God bless them a long and happy life together.

5) Last weekend we welcomed Lucy Johnson, infant daughter of Keah Adams and Ian Johnson as she was baptized into our Catholic Church. Please remember to pray for her and her family as she grows in her faith.

6) We will be resuming our Bible Study classes in mid-September. We’ve moved the site of the classes to the St. Joseph’s Sacristy but the time remains the same: Thursday evenings from 7-8 pm. Now would be a great time to reserve that space on your calendars so that you can join in the study of God’s word and it’s meaning for your life.

7) The handmade quilts which are the top prize for the St. Alphonsus and St. Joseph’s Parish draws are on display in each church. They are there to act as an incentive to both buy and sell tickets. Please remember that we ask every family to either purchase or sell no less than 10 books of tickets to ensure the success of each draw. I thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Notes from Fr. Tim
1) The telephones are finally working in the Chapeau office. At least they are today. Tomorrow? Who knows? If you want to call there directly to reach Pauline or me on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, the number is 1-819-506-6977. We usually have the call forwarding on from the St. Joseph’s office to the one in Chapeau so you can still reach us at 819-689-5232. In cases of emergency only, a priest can be contacted by calling 613-281-0872.

2) We welcome Rowan Godin (John Godin/Krystal Landry) and Aiden Godin (Matthew Godin/ Amanda Byers) who were baptized into our Catholic faith in Chapeau last weekend.

3) Our sympathy and condolences are extended to Tim Doyle whose mother Carmelita (Cannie) Doyle died this past Wednesday evening. Her wake is to be held at the Hayes Funeral Home in Chapeau on Monday (2-4 pm, 7-9 pm) and funeral service will be on Tuesday at St. Paul the Hermit Parish in Sheenboro. Please visit either the parish or Hayes Funeral Home website for the time of the funeral. Please pray both for the repose of her soul and the consolation of her family.

4) As a follow-up to last Sunday’s homily, here is the quote I referenced that expands upon your role as Catholic lay evangelists within your parish:  “Fulfilling one’s Christian mission requires joining with other members of the church. For example, it is good to be active in one’s parish which “brings the Church into the neighborhood” (n. 27). “A member of the lay faithful can never remain in isolation from the community, but must live in a continual interaction with others, with a lively sense of fellowship” (n. 20).”

5) Draw tickets for St. Joseph’s parish are now available to be sold or purchased. Prizes include a handmade quilt and various cash prizes. We ask every family to either purchase or sell at least 10 books of tickets to ensure that the draw is a financial success.
