Notes from Fr. Tim
1) The telephones are finally working in the Chapeau office. At least they are today. Tomorrow? Who knows? If you want to call there directly to reach Pauline or me on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, the number is 1-819-506-6977. We usually have the call forwarding on from the St. Joseph’s office to the one in Chapeau so you can still reach us at 819-689-5232. In cases of emergency only, a priest can be contacted by calling 613-281-0872.

2) We welcome Rowan Godin (John Godin/Krystal Landry) and Aiden Godin (Matthew Godin/ Amanda Byers) who were baptized into our Catholic faith in Chapeau last weekend.

3) Our sympathy and condolences are extended to Tim Doyle whose mother Carmelita (Cannie) Doyle died this past Wednesday evening. Her wake is to be held at the Hayes Funeral Home in Chapeau on Monday (2-4 pm, 7-9 pm) and funeral service will be on Tuesday at St. Paul the Hermit Parish in Sheenboro. Please visit either the parish or Hayes Funeral Home website for the time of the funeral. Please pray both for the repose of her soul and the consolation of her family.

4) As a follow-up to last Sunday’s homily, here is the quote I referenced that expands upon your role as Catholic lay evangelists within your parish:  “Fulfilling one’s Christian mission requires joining with other members of the church. For example, it is good to be active in one’s parish which “brings the Church into the neighborhood” (n. 27). “A member of the lay faithful can never remain in isolation from the community, but must live in a continual interaction with others, with a lively sense of fellowship” (n. 20).”

5) Draw tickets for St. Joseph’s parish are now available to be sold or purchased. Prizes include a handmade quilt and various cash prizes. We ask every family to either purchase or sell at least 10 books of tickets to ensure that the draw is a financial success.

Notes from Fr. Tim
1) We extend our sympathy and condolences to the families of Teresa Conroy (nee Fortune) and Elmer Gallagher who both passed away this week. It seems somewhat appropriate that they follow each other so closely into eternal life given that they lived as neighbours in Chapeau for so many years!. Teresa’s wake will be held this Sunday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Hayes Funeral Chapel in Chapeau with the funeral mass celebrated on Monday at11 am in St. Alphonsus Parish. Elmer Gallagher’s wake will also be held at the Hayes Funeral Chapel on Sunday, March 26 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. His funeral will be held in St. Joseph’s Church on Monday, March 27th at 11 am. Please keep both of their families in your thoughts and prayers.

2) A reminder to the students preparing to receive their confirmation at the hand of Bishop Mulhall this coming June to study well. The exam testing your knowledge of the sacrament will be held at our next class. Passing this test is a requirement for receiving the sacrament. You don’t want to have to repeat the course again next year!!

3) We will be having a parish meeting for St. Alphonsus Church immediately following this Sunday’s mass to explain the various construction and repair work that is taking place. Since you are going to be asked many times to help contribute financially to these projects you might as well find out how your money is going to be spent.

4) Have you purchased your ticket yet for the Spring Concert and Supper in aid of St. Alphonsus Church? Not only will there be beautiful music next weekend but it’s being followed with a tasty roast beef supper in Harrington Community Centre. Please help to make both halves of this event a great success.

5) We welcome Fr. Mitch back to Sheenboro this weekend. I trust he will enjoy the traditional hospitality that the residents there are so famous for and gets to stuff himself with lots of good food at the parish potluck which follows the 5 pm. mass. Our thanks to him as well for his generous gift of a St. Patrick’s statue to adorn St. Paul the Hermit Church. It will be just one more touch of green in that place where the Irish are so strongly felt!

1) Our sympathies and prayers go out to the families of George Sullivan (Sheenboro) and Rita O’Brien (Chapeau) who both died at the end of this past week. Mr. Sullivan’s funeral was celebrated in Sheenboro on Saturday.  Miss O’Brien’s wake will be at Hayes Funeral Chapel on Monday 2-5, 7-9 pm and her funeral in St. Alphonsus Parish on Tuesday at 11 am.

2) Congratulations to three children who are being baptized this weekend. They are: Paisley Denetta Marie Norwich, daughter of Joshua Norwich and Katie Connor; Ellen Mary Nephin, daughter of Jessica Nephin; and Chase Emerson John Fleming, son of Robert Fleming and Samantha Demers.

3) Bible Study class continues on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in the St. Joseph’s Rectory.

4) Attention St. Joseph’s Parishioners: We will be continuing with the 2nd phase of our church bathroom project this winter. Hopefully, it will soon be completed. We will also be converting the sacristy into a meeting room so that we will have a place to hold meetings in both St. Joseph’s and Chapeau (once the construction project there comes to a completion… eventually). We will be installing video displays in both rooms to be able to start offering a series of courses beginning this Lent to help us develop a deeper Catholic faith. Watch here for upcoming announcements.

5) I’ve added a flyer to this weekend’s bulletin entitled ‘What your pastor won’t tell you about parish giving’. It’s an excellent article that I hope everyone will read and respond well to. In that same spirit, we will be posting the financial statements for 2016 in each of the three churches as well as on the parish website ( Feel free to ask me any questions once you’ve had a chance to peruse the documents.

6) Finally, I wish to offer my personal thanks for the many generous gifts I received from parishioners over the Christmas season. Your many kindnesses were very much appreciated. Thank you one and all.
