Notes from Fr: Tim
1) In today’s readings, we hear Jesus calling some of the first apostles to join him in proclaiming the good news of the Gospel. This is an invitation we all received by virtue of our baptism. So, who have you shared the good news with lately?

2) Lent begins this week with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. Wednesday is to be a day of fasting (total amount of food for day to equal one meal) and abstinence (we don’t eat meat) for everyone between the ages of 8 yrs old to 65 yrs. This communal act of penance is a sign that we acknowledge our sins as a community.

3) The Stations of the Cross will be celebrated each Friday during Lent at 7 pm. This week they will be celebrated in the St. Joseph’s Church. Next Friday they will be celebrated in the Chapeau sacristy.

A chance to honor one of our former Chapeau pastors… Msgr. Doug Bridge on the occasion of his 50th anniversary this month!

In all the years that I have served here on Allumettes Island, I have never heard anyone offer anything but the highest of praise and compliments for Fr. Douglas Bridge, the priest who followed in Msgr. D.J. Harrington’s shoes as parish priest of Chapeau, Waltham, Nichabeau, and Desjardinsville. That is an amazing accomplishment for any priest… but even more so when that priest follows in the footsteps who was as revered and long serving as Msgr. D.J.

Now a Monseigneur in his own right, Fr. Bridge is celebrating his 50th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood on May 17th, 2015 at the 9 am. mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Pembroke. We are all invited to come and celebrate with him at that mass, which is to be followed with a social in the Lourdes Parish Hall.

Lourdes parish is also putting together a tribute book to be filled with remembrances and best wishes from people he has served so well over these past five decades. If you would want participate in this project, you can do it in the following ways:

1) There are pages available at the entrances to the Chapeau Church which you can use to create a ‘family page’ to be included in this book. You will find ample space to gather signatures and messages of congratulations as well as a spot to share a photo with him of your family, perhaps taken back when he was your pastor or as you look today. All these pages must arrive at Lourdes parish no later than May 10th or 11th. You can send a digital copy of your page to bkenney@nrtco.net or you can drop it off at the Lourdes parish office.

2) You can send us an email requesting a digital copy of the page from here at our parish office (uppontiac@gmail.com  or  frtimmoylepp@gmail.com) and once completed, send it along to Fr. Kenney at bkenney@nrtco.net.

3) You can pick up a hard copy at our parish office (Tuesday – Friday 9 am to 4 pm)

4) You can just sign the pages we will post for your signature in the Chapeau Church and we will send it in with various photos of the Chapeau Church.

No matter how you choose to participate in this tribute book initiative, I sincerely hope as your current parish priest that you will make the effort to participate his anniversary mass at 9 am. on May 17th in Pembroke and let him know how important he has been in the life of our Allumettes Island parishes and in the lives of their members.
